‘Under the Strap’ Podcast: Episode 4 with Mike ‘Fluff’ Cowan and Mike Hicks
Editor’s note: This podcast was recorded in April 2020. We’re revisiting it now as part of our year in review.
In our fourth ‘Under the Strap’ podcast episode, TCN Director of Content T.J. Auclair welcomes caddie legends Mike “Fluff” Cowan and Mike Hicks.
Fluff has been a PGA Tour caddie since the 1970s. After nearly 20 years with Peter Jacobsen, Fluff joined forces with Tiger Woods shortly after Woods turned pro and was on the bag for the historic 1997 Masters victory.

Six years later, Fluff would be on the bag for Jim Furyk’s 2003 U.S. Open win at Olympia Fields. The Furyk and Fluff team has been together for a remarkable 21 years and counting – a stretch that has included not just one, but two, sub-60 rounds.
Hicks, meanwhile, was on the bag for nine worldwide wins with Payne Stewart, including the 1989 PGA Championship and the 1991 and 1999 U.S. Opens, in their 11-year partnership. That 1999 U.S. Open, famously, was at Pinehurst No. 2 — a tournament Stewart captured just months before his tragic death in a plane accident.
In the podcast, Fluff and Hicks open up about life on Tour in their early days and share tremendous stories about experiences over the years.
