Caddie Confidential: Which is the best stop on the West Coast Swing?
Welcome to the second installment of our 2022 “Caddie Confidential” series, with monthly, inside-the-ropes perspective from dozens of Tour caddies on rotating golf topics. First up: Caddies share their favorite golf stops along the West Coast swing.
After leaving Hawaii to start the year and heading back to the mainland, the PGA Tour’s West Coast Swing — a five-tournament stretch beginning with The American Express and ending with the Genesis Invitational at Riviera — is contested.
In this edition of our Caddie Confidential, we polled nearly three dozen caddies to find out their favorite places to caddie along the West Coast.
Riviera got the most mentions with five.

Phoenix and Hawaii received multiple votes as well.
Some caddies love going out west: “I love the whole west coast swing,” one caddie said.
While others don’t like it at all: “None of them,” said another.
Here’s a look at the responses from our caddies, who we promised anonymity in an effort to get their most honest answers.

Riviera.
Phoenix.
Palm Springs.
The Sony at Waialae CC has always been one of my favorite events on Tour. It’s always great to start off a new year in a warm and enjoyable climate during what’s the coldest time of the year for the rest of the country.
Riviera.
L.A.
Phoenix.
Sony Open…. great way to start the calendar year.
I love the whole west coast swing. Great golf courses, and Cali is beautiful in January.
None of them.
Hawaii.
Sony Open in Hawaii. Course, weather, and the town make it my favorite.
Used to be Phoenix. Now, I’d say San Diego because it’s become an annuity for my player.
So many good stops but I’m always biased towards Pebble Beach and the whole atmosphere.
I would vote for Scottsdale. Good course, lots of fun that week and you can find a place to stay for a reasonable rate. Riviera CC is my favorite layout but the hotel/rental car situation in California is borderline criminal.

San Diego.
Los Angeles.
